Holiday Challenge Ideas and Tips for presentations
Grades 2-8 can present any holiday-themed interaction. The time limit is 10 minutes per class.
Holiday Customs and Traditions A class can research customs and triaditions in another country and present clues about the country. The other classes could guess what the country is. (Social Studies and gepography.)
Holiday math A class could develop tow or three math problems with a holiday theme for the other classes to solve. Classes will present the math problem and then let the other classes solve it. (Math problem-solving.)
Holiday Mad-libs Presenting class has the mad-lib. The class will call on other classes for the parts of speech to complete the mad-lib. the the presenting class will read the complete mad-lib. (Review parts of speech!)
Where is Santa? Presenting class set the scene for Santa is missing. Where could he be? Presenting class will give clues to his location and the other classes can guess. (US Geography)
Holiday Mystery (Twenty Questions) Presenting class has some person, place, or thing related to the holidays. The other classes try to guess it within 20 "yes/no" questions. (Higher order thinking skills).
Christmas Carol Act It Out Presenting class acts out a Christmas carol without music. Other classes guess what the carol is and then sing a verse or chorus of it.
Tips for Presentations
1) Practice, practice, practice!
2) Make sure anything that you are showing on camera is stationary. (Use easels or place objects on tables. Keep butcher paper away from the microphone!) Mute microphones when moving butcher paper items.
3) Use index card to write speaking parts on. Copy paper makes so much noise that student voices cannot be heard.
4) Let your video conference cart manager know what you are planning for your presentation. They will be able to help you with the computer or audio issues and share tips with you!
5) See the Microphone placement page for tips on where to place the microphone.
6) Be creative and have fun!
