Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Connections with Mexico

Week of May 4, 2009

Add to your Cinco De Mayo celebration by connecting with a classroom in Mexico! Discuss Cinco De Mayo traditions or watch Folklorico dancing with students from Mexico. These are not content provider session, but connections to real classrooms. Each participating class will need to have something to share and prepared questions to ask. Most connections will be done in spanish, although English translators may be requested (though not guaranteed).

Cinco de Mayo sessions will focus on the traditions of Cinco de Mayo. You can share how you celebrate at your school and ask the students in Mexico what they do to celebrate. Connections will last 30-45 min.

Folklorico sessions will have a class from Mexcio (high school, I believe) share some traditional Mexican dance numbers. Students can then share Cinco De Mayo traditions they have participated in. Connections will last 45-60 min.

For each topic, time will be available just general questions. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn how students live in another country.

In order to involve as many schools as possible, each school may sign up for only ONE time slot. Also, in order to preserve the interactiveness of the program, only one classroom per school (maximum 30 students).

Please fill out the form completely.

There are 12 opportunities for participation. Please note the date, grade level, and topic when picking a time.

Waitlisted schools will be notified by email and moved up to a registered spot should a spot come available.

If you have any questions, please ask.
